The WomenPresent team came together to do something about the problem of gender diversity at industry events. With our backgrounds in technology and advertising - and hearing from so many other people that they want the situation to change, we're optimistic that we can make a difference!
Cadi Jones is Commercial Innovation Director for Clear Channel International, and is primarily responsible for defining its international programmatic strategy and deployment - a key initiative in the company’s technology-led digital transformation.
Having previously worked in commercial roles within advertising technology at The Guardian and Yahoo, Cadi has presented and joined panels at many events. However, she is frustrated at frequently being the only female on stage.
Tom Jenen is an 18-year veteran of technology platforms, including Google, Admeld, Eyeblaster/Mediamind and others. Tom currently supports a number of startups as co-founder or in nonexec director or advisory roles.
At tech conferences, you rarely see women on stage. In January 2013, Tom read this article in The Atlantic and, like many other men, took the pledge not to appear on or moderate any all-male panels. Four years later, the problem still hasn’t gone away.
Father of a daughter and three sons, Tom hopes that increasing the number of expert women on conference stages will have an impact on the unconscious bias that pervades society today.
Susan Pierce has spent the last 15 years in product development roles across advertising technology. She currently runs a software engineering consultancy for top tier ad tech clients. While most of her contributions have been behind the scenes and off the presentation stage, Susan is passionate about professional development opportunities for women.
WomenPresent has support of many industry bodies, who represent women in media, advertising, marketing and communications. We're grateful to these partners who are supportive of our mission and will share more details soon!
